Today is the Day (Yo La Tengo plays the Showbox)

Tonight the Wheel of Fortune will spin in Seattle as fate will decide Yo La Tengo’s first set. Among the possibilities include: Songs Starting with “S”; “The Sounds of Science” Parts 1 & 2 (the instrumental score they did in 2001 for shorts by Jean Painleve); The Freewheeling Yo La Tengo (a Q&A with the audience) and tunes from Condo Fuck, their cover band alter ego. The A/V Club kindly goes through the ramifications of each possibility here, with much more patience than me. The most intriguing option is Sitcom Theater, in which the band will act out a classic sitcom – which would be theoretically awesome (although in practice, apparently the crowd at Chicago’s Metro quickly grew tired of the Seinfeld “Chinese Restaurant” episode).
