Song of the Day: Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Bottled in Cork

February 25, 2011

Ted Leo, sadly with no Pharmacists in tow, will be playing on the University of Washington campus tonight. Coincidentally, I, too, will be going solo, as my girlfriend has bailed. Of course, the joke is on her since when I go to shows by myself, I spend much of my time surrounded by young maidens vying for my attention. “Hey, thanks, but I’m just here for the music,” I say, but that only seems to spur the girls on. While I may be long and lean, I am not a strip pole. And no matter how many times it happens, I just can’t get into the zone with the music when a sexy lingerie-clad hottie is grinding on my leg. Sure, I try to ignore these lascivious advances, but let’s be honest: it’s distracting. I came to see the band, not cheap sex. Frankly, I don’t even like going to all-ages shows anymore. Effortlessly sporting the “cool dad” look that so many teenage gals find irresistible has become a burden. Keep it up girls and I’ll shave off this luscious head of hair. Seriously, I will.
